Speaker: Kathy Edin, Johns Hopkins University

Edin and Schaefer’s new book, $2.00 a Day: Living on Almost Nothing in America, shines a spotlight on people living with insecurity, as they try to get by on little or no income. In this plenary, Kathy Edin will talk about her research, and two scholars from LSE will respond. John Hills’ work challenges myths about a divide between fixed groups with static incomes. Lisa McKenzie’s ethnographic research reveals the challenges facing low income families in the UK.
