This study aims to evaluate the effect of an unconditional cash transfer on refugee children’s school attendance. UNICEF Lebanon is using a cash transfer program to support Syrian refugees to send their children to school. The research team has collected baseline data and is in the process of collecting follow-up data. Baseline results suggest there are high levels of food insecurity among the population and that many of the children out of school cite the cost as a primary reason. We will use propensity score matching to analyze the impact of the transfer on a select set of key outcomes. This study will help us understand the impacts of cash in the midst of the world’s largest humanitarian crisis since the early 1990s.
