This paper examines the impact of Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) on infant health. I find that PDMPs reduce the incidence of very low birth weight (less than 1,500 grams) and low birth weight (less than 2,000 grams) by 6.87 and 3.33 percent respectively in mandatory use states where prescribers are required to access PDMPs under certain circumstances. My results suggest that possible mechanisms include reduced opioid misuse among pregnant women.
