This presentation will share preliminary results associated with a study addressing inequities in bike share transportation. Populations traditionally underrepresented in fixed station bike share membership include the less educated, lower income, non-white, Hispanic, and female. They are referred to here as ‘equity communities’. Surveys of Baltimore Bike Share (BBS) members were used to identify equity communities in the BBS service area. Intercept surveys of non-users were conducted to understand differential impediments preventing entry to the Baltimore Bike Share system for these ‘equity communities’. Linear and/or logistic regression modeling is being used to identify significant relationships between perceiving specific conditions as barriers to using the Baltimore Bike Share system and being a member of an equity community. A description of the methodology will be presented along with descriptive population statistics and a partial barrier analysis. The results of regression analysis will also be presented, to the extent that they are available at the time of the presentation. The results of this analysis may be useful in the design of targeted programs and policies to improve participation rates of equity communities, which has positive implications for both health policy and transportation accessibility goals.
