This paper examines gender differences in the career paths of engineering majors during the past two decades using longitudinal records for the Science and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT). We evaluate gender differences in engineering specialization, starting jobs, and middle and later career employment. In addition we examine gender differences in salaries and the probability of working as an engineer 10-15 years past the undergraduate engineering degree. We expect to find that women earn less and are more likely to leave engineering careers for other opportunities.
