This study uses longitudinal data from Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development (SECCYD) to examine the relationship between maternal passive smoking and later child educational outcomes. While there is a long literature on the effects of direct smoking, this is one of the first studies to study the effects of secondhand smoking. We use propensity score matching to match children from families with mothers exposed to passive smoking and children from families without mothers exposed to passive smoking.
