Designed Redundancies: How Respondents Answer Similar Questions in the SIPP
Elizabeth Crowe, American University; Congressional Research Service

In 2014 an intensive workshop on using the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) was held at Duke University in cooperation with the University of Michigan and the U.S. Census Bureau. From that workshop, the idea for an APPAM panel devoted to the use of SIPP in policy research was born. These four papers represent some of the newest research using this very extensive and very rich longitudinal data set. This panel is appropriate for those interested in learning more about SIPP, how it can be used for a variety of social science topics and what sorts of methodological challenges and opportunities this data set presents.
