The purpose of this study is to provide a conclusive analysis of gerontechnology (GT) policy design to care for an aging society. The study analyzes various dimensions of GT policy and its integration in South Korea.

GT policy concerns the development and use of GT to provide solutions for an aging society. The proportion of elderly people in South Korea is increasing rapidly, faster than in any other country in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Despite the high level of interest in science and technology policy in South Korea, studies on GT policy are few and incomplete. The lack of research has prevented a rational approach to GT policymaking, leading to inappropriate policy that exacerbates existing problems or causes new problems.

Given these concerns, this study investigates which approaches can be used to design the most successful(not only effective) GT policy.

Many studies have been conducted on public policy design, but they have generally been one-dimensional in scope and unsystematic in methodology. In studies that did carry out dimensional analysis, some factors were classified illogically, preventing accurate analysis of each dimension. This study aims to resolve these inconsistencies and incompleteness by first discussing the scope and key characteristics of GT policy. Next, GT policy analysis will be classified into several dimensions according to a goal-means chain, and the designation of each dimension for analysis will be justified. The analytical methodology and results will be discussed. Finally, this study examines how this dimensional analysis can be integrated into policy design.
