This paper examines whether visible tattoos affect recidivism length.  Research suggests that visible tattoos may affect employment and also that employment affects recidivism.  I combine these two literatures and test whether inmates with visible tattoos return to incarceration faster and more often than similar inmates with non visible tattoos. The results suggest that tattoo visibility plays a significant role in increasing recidivism risk.
