Special Events: APPAM Communities: Policy Analysts of the Coastal and Inter-Mountain West

Saturday, November 9, 2019: 1:30 PM-3:00 PM
Speakers:  Heather Campbell, Claremont Graduate University, Michael Shires, Pepperdine University, Rachel Swanger, Pardee RAND Graduate School and Sandra Archibald, University of Washington

APPAM policy schools of the coastal and intermountain west are generally newer, farther from Washington DC, farther from APPAM’s headquarters, and farther from each other than those east of the Rockies. Being farther from DC certainly changes both the orientation and the opportunities for our student. Further, certain policy issues in the intermountain west present differently: for example, immigration issues and demographic mixes and changes. And, the nature of the western cities is different from those in the east and therefore some urban policy issues are different.
For all of these reasons we would like to try a Western Policy affinity group at APPAM for the Fall of 2019 to see if there are interests that could be improved through meeting, coordination, and collaboration
