APPAM Communities: Chinese Policy Scholars Group
Over the past few years, there has been a surging interest in studying various policy issues in China at APPAM. At the same time, an increasing number of Chinese policy scholars, both faculty members and students, has become active and contributing members of APPAM, in a variety of policy areas, including but not limited to social equity and justice, poverty and income, education, health, energy and environmental, public management and finance, science and technology, and policy process. This proposal aims to create a Chinese Policy Scholars Group to bring together scholars with a Chinese origin, and non-Chinese scholars with shared interests in policy research in China. The purpose of the group is to serve as a bridge between policy researchers and practitioners in the US and China, to provide a platform for scholarly and professional dialogues, and to form a lively and supportive community for Chinese policy scholars and non-Chinese scholars with a policy interest in China. We appreciate the opportunity offered by APPAM to create such a community. The organizers of this group have organized two informal gatherings among Chinese policy scholars in 2017 and 2018, with 35 and 55 attendees respectively. We also developed an informal Chinese social media group among the Chinese policy scholars. This is a perfect opportunity to formalize and expand the gathering and connect our activities to the APPAM conference. Our group will increase the diversity of APPAM membership, facilitate cross-cultural policy dialogue and enhance high-quality policy research.
