Special Events: Gentrification Field Trip

Friday, November 8, 2019: 12:00 PM-1:15 PM
Main Hotel Lobby (Sheraton Denver Downtown)

Most American cities are experiencing some neighborhood gentrification, with mixed results for different city populations. Denver, a city that has been booming in many ways, has also faced major gentrification issues and challenges, and provides a local example of these issues.

This walking tour, starting from the Sheraton Denver hotel, will examine places in nearby Curtis Park/Five Points and/or RINO neighborhoods.  These places will include TIF-subsidized developments, public housing that has been gentrified, park spaces undergoing changes, schools shifting to serve different constituents, and homeless shelters.  The tour will be led Tony Robinson, a political science professor at University of Colorado, Denver, and will feature discussion about the neighborhoods' gentrification results.

Lunch will be provided for tour participants upon their return to the hotel.

Pre-registration is required, but this event is now sold out (as of 10/30/19).
